Record Store Day 2013 - The Aftermath

  • Written by  Danielle Gibson

Record Store Day Update! We can gladly announce that the album sales for Record Store Day 2013 on Saturday 20 April were up by 60% on last year. So this means that it looks like vinyl purchases were even more impressive, rising 87% from 2012.

As analysed by Music Week, the Official Charts Company have confirmed that nearly 70,000 vinyl records were sold in the week following the event which follows on from the recent news that vinyl sales are at their highest level since 1997.

Market researchers Quirk claimed “There is a lot of revulsion among music fans when people try to cash in on Record Store Day, but the stores have made strenuous efforts to restrict this trade.” So another success as only 2% of records ended up on eBay this year which means 98% did not.
