SSE Scottish Music Awards Announce Snow Patrol And Tom Grennan

The SSE Scottish Music Awards returns once again in 2018, celebrating twenty years of raising vital funds for Nordoff Robbins Scotland, whilst honouring the biggest and best in Scottish music. With some of the most legendary figures in music receiving prestigious awards over the years including Paolo Nutini, Emeli Sandé, Annie Lennox and Deacon Blue, 2018’s star-studded ceremony will not only reflect on an incredible year for Scotland, but also on the music and artists who have been the soundtrack of a nation for the past twenty years.

Colin Banks, Head of Sponsorship and Reward for SSE, said: “We’re extremely proud to support Nordoff Robbins Scotland and look forward to a very special 20th edition of the SSE Scottish Music Awards. The event has become a landmark in the Scottish music calendar and every year, proves instrumental in sustaining the vital work of the charity and its life-changing therapists.”

After years of the event taking place in Glasgow’s legendary Old Fruitmarket, the SSE Scottish Music Awards will this year take place at the SEC on Saturday December 1. With organisers pulling some of the biggest acts from across the UK to Glasgow to celebrate a very special birthday, it seemed fitting that this year’s awards were the biggest and best yet. With a host of surprises, special guests and huge celebrations planned, there is no doubt the SEC will be the perfect venue for this year’s 20th birthday bash.

With the biggest and best Scottish Music Awards to date planned for this year, it is only right that some of the biggest acts in the world come to Glasgow for the awards. Having formed while studying in Dundee, Snow Patrol have become embedded in the fabric of the Scottish music scene, headlining some of the country’s biggest and most legendary venues including The SSE Hydro, T in the Park, King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut and many more. With over two decades in the music industry, Snow Patrol have written some of the country's most recognisable and loved songs and in 2018 the band released their latest album Wildness, their first in seven years. With 15 million global album sales, five UK Platinum albums and over 1 billion global track streams, Snow Patrol will make a much-anticipated return to the SSE Scottish Music Awards.

Keen to support the nation’s most exciting emerging artists, last year’s SSE Scottish Music Awards saw rising stars Lewis Capaldi, Nina Nesbitt and Tom Walker all scoop awards and 2018 will be no different. Singer-songwriter Tom Grennan stormed onto the scene last year, headlining the King Tut’s Stage Powered by Utilita Energy at the first TRNSMT Festival. He moved up to the main stage in 2018 with a massive singalong set including hit singles ‘Royal Highness’, ‘Sober' and ‘Found What I’ve Been Looking For’ which have all become BBC Radio 1 mainstays.  His debut album, Lighting Matches, hit the Top 5 on its release in July and Tom holds the Guinness World Record for most gigs in a single day, meaning he makes a truly exciting addition to 2018’s awards.

The SSE Scottish Music Awards have been the main fundraising event for music therapy charity Nordoff Robbins Scotland since 1996. Funds raised on the night are a vital part of the charity’s ability to provide music therapists and sessions to those who need it most. 2017’s winners and attendees included Emeli Sandé, Nina Nesbitt, Lewis Capaldi, Tom Walker and Hipsway, with 2018 set to be the biggest and best in the awards’ 20 year history.
