Dancehall Share Video For New Single 'Virgin'

Dancehall are a trio of believers in distortion, energy and melody who meld their droning shoegaze with serrated punk. Based in London and from previous punk bands Kill Kenada & Ice Sea Dead People, they've honed their craft of writing tightly wound songs via copious amounts of bedroom demoing, rehearsing in Limehouse, recording and fried chicken.

Now releasing their newest video, we follow the group into their local offy to catch their pre-practice routine. Speaking on the video, guitarist Craig Sharp says, “The idea was to shoot the whole video in various newsagents near our practice space. Going to a newsagents to load up on Polish beer and maize-based snacks for the studio has become a bit of a ritual for us and it seemed fun to glorify that fairly normal event in slow mo. It was shot by our drummer’s brother, William Keeler and directed by me.”

'Virgin' & the B-side 'Digging' were recorded live by Mark Jasper at Sound Savers Studios (Cold Pumas, Sauna Youth, Slowcoaches, etc.) under the constraints of the band's own 3-take rule. Lyrically, Timothy V (singer/bassist) says 'Virgin' is "a nod to the pressures of modern youth and the loss of it through advertising, media, sex, social media, etc. A faint farewell to the clichéd values that they have been built upon and a repositioning of rock 'n' roll's tired message". The record is released on 7" vinyl courtesy of the band's own label, Anti Vibe Music Group & Strong Island Records.
