Eoin Glackin - Eoin Glackin

  • Written by  Zoe Wallbank

Irish musician Eoin Glackin returns to the UK with his new self-titled album out 20th July. It has a wisdom and story-like feel to it, whilst remaining a good album to everyone, an uncommon combination.

The opening track ‘Dancing Anymore’ is perfect, as it sums up the style and attitude of the album. It’s a slow acoustic led song about not always doing what people want you to do just to please them. This tone and the strong sense of story is something prominent throughout this album and captures the listener well.

The album somehow mixes indie rock and Irish folk together flawlessly, with such strong lyrics and infectious melodies. All tracks on this album are catchy, although it can be spilt into upbeat fast paced songs and slower ones. It’s done so well that there is no set pattern between slower and faster paced songs yet the album flows smoothly, a credit to both Glackin’s writing and singing to carry this over. This spilt can be noticed best in ‘Rain Finally Came’ as it has an upbeat melody but breakup lyrics, making it a sad message yet upbeat song. The mixture of emotions is shown in lyrics such as “You should have seen them crying / You should have seen them smiling / The day the rain finally came.”

That being said ‘Morning Take Us Easy’ has a similar beat and message of inevitably, but with happier lyrics, a credit to the incredible talent of Glackin and flow of the album.

The honest and story-like lyrics are this album’s strongest attribute. The openness and raw beauty of these songs is shown in tracks such as ‘What Am I To You?’ which is a slower heartfelt track that contains incredible lyrics such as ”It’s obvious how Eden’s garden gre / But what’s really got me is what am I to you?” and ‘Ride It Out’ which contains brutally honest lyrics such as “The revolution will not be shown.”

In addition, ‘You Are The Revolution’ also has a strong sense of story with uplifting lyrics about bettering yourself.

Overall, the album is a credit to Glackin and will no doubt lead him into a strong and steady career.

Eoin Glackin is available from Amazon and iTunes.
