Here at Muso's Guide, we got pretty stuck in to the build up for Record Store Day 2013. In between vainly attempting to reduce our list of desired records from this year's releases down to a reasonable number, we got chattering away to record companies around the country about their involvement with the big day in the attempt to find out what life is like on the other side of the till. In addition to being a significant day for record stores wanting to increase their local profile and to please their many fans, Record Store Day is a highpoint of the year for the many record companies who take part in the event.

Record Store Day 2013 - The Aftermath

Record Store Day Update! We can gladly announce that the album sales for Record Store Day 2013 on Saturday 20 April were up by 60% on last year. So this means that it looks like vinyl purchases were even more impressive, rising 87% from 2012.

As analysed by Music Week, the Official Charts Company have confirmed that nearly 70,000 vinyl records were sold in the week following the event which follows on from the recent news that vinyl sales are at their highest level since 1997.

Market researchers Quirk claimed “There is a lot of revulsion among music fans when people try to cash in on Record Store Day, but the stores have made strenuous efforts to restrict this trade.” So another success as only 2% of records ended up on eBay this year which means 98% did not.
