Sunset Sons Have Problems

Sunset Sons today release a new single, ‘Problems’, produced by long-time collaborator Catherine Marks (Foals, The Big Moon). The first new music from the band since The River EP in summer 2018 (which has since clocked over two million streams online), the new track arrives just ahead of a run of four UK underplay shows, including London’s The Camden Assembly on June 26. With all dates now sold out, the shows follow a November tour as special guests of Nothing But Thieves, and arrive just ahead of summer festival dates including Truck Festival and Boardmasters.

Speaking about the new video for the taut, urgent ‘Problems’ - shot in and around South London’s House of Vans - frontman Rory Williams says; “It’s centred around a character who has lost his way. He’s been dealt some shitty cards over time and he blames himself - very much a 'feel sorry for me' guy. Even though he’s a good person, life has ground him down, and as a result, this is the person you see. It’s no Marlon Brando performance but it paints the picture.”

The new release is the product of a song-writing purple patch from the Hossegor-based Sunset Sons, following the winter run of shows with Nothing But Thieves (which took in a night at London’s Alexandra Palace). “Every day’s a school day now,” laughs Williams; “I try to write every day - when I’m at home I do a 9 to 5 pretty well every day. Although it sometimes starts a little later than 9, you know.” Speaking about the band’s partnership with Catherine Marks - who produced The River and will also be at the helm for the band’s forthcoming second album - Williams says; “CJ wants to hear your weirdest ideas in the studio - she’s been putting our keys and guitars through different pedals in recording sessions, and we love what she’s brought to the new material. She’s essentially the fifth member of Sunset Sons.”
