Tom Clay - Sanctuary

  • Published in Singles

Singer/Songwriter Tom Clay has had a difficult journey to his debut single 'Sanctuary'. Having relocated to the USA to chase stardom on the silver screen, he moved back to the UK after falling in love, only for his relationship to have a tragic end. Immersing himself in songwriting, Tom found an escape route and salvation; it proved to be his 'Sanctuary'. His debut single explores this journey.

Although he does not necessarily tread new terrain on 'Sanctuary', which boasts a melody reminiscent of The Calling and lyrics akin to Passenger, there is something truly endearing about the song itself. While the video may be something of a throw away effort, 'Sanctuary' shows great potential.

That being said it strikes us to be a little more than an introductory track, which should have been used as a teaser ahead of a further working, as opposed to being a compelling start to a career as a recording artist. Tom Clay could grow into an artist that dominates the airwaves in a similar fashion to Ed Sheeran and Jack Savoretti, but he just needs to push his own boundaries a little further to make us really feel what he is feeling.
