Ben Montague – Back Into Paradise
- Written by Zoe Wallbank
Ben Montague’s new album Back Into Paradise may be more pop than the average Musos' reader is used to, however, with more rock-influenced songs, particularly ‘Serendipity’ and ‘The Meaning’, and even a cover of the Foo Fighters' ‘Best of You’ to close the album, it seems that this pop/rock crossover may be something no-one can ignore anymore.
That being said, the album as a whole is without a doubt a pop album, full of summery acoustic tracks perfect for this time of year. It is also packed with emotional lyrics and a positive message causing it to be a relaxing but upbeat summer album.
The tracks are extremely catchy, in particular ‘We Start Over’ which has an infectiously catchy chorus of “We crash, we burn / We live, we learn / We hurt, we start over”, guaranteed to be stuck in the listener’s head for hours afterwards, something that is key to getting and holding attention in such a fast paced industry that always has lots of new music flooding in.
Another song that showcases the positive message of Back Into Paradise is ‘Gonna Love Again’, a song with a strong message and story including lyrics such as “it’s gonna get hard until it gets better”. However, without a doubt the most emotional song on the album is track five, ‘Another Chance’. A touchingly beautiful song about losing someone and wishing you had more time with him or her.
The slightly more light-hearted tracks are the “cutesy love songs” that include ‘Runaway’ and ‘Sleeping’, these cute acoustic love songs are sure to have teenager girls falling for them in masses.
Overall, it’s a good album. Fitting the genre for what’s popular now, with strong lyrics that grab the listener’s attention and a summer feel just in time for its June release.
