The Garden Release New Single & Video

  • Published in News

Once again leaving genre boundaries in the dust, The Garden twins return with Mirror Might Steal Your Charm, out  March 30 via Epitaph Records. Taking the audience away into a still unfathomed sound world and bringing back some of the scuzzier elements of their earlier work, the duo’s more guitar focused third album is another sublime slice of post-modern pop. Welcome back to a land that’s familiar, slightly out of sync, and a little bit unnerving.

Wyatt and Fletcher Shears (24) have been conceptualising their own style since well before the formation of the band in 2011. Described as auditory invaders of the new world; borderless, informed and decentralised, the duo represent a youthful punk scene in California with their DIY principles, thrift store-cum-glam fashion style and a vast list of influences. While 2013’s Life And Times Of A Paperclip offered a glimpse into their breakbeat-propelled world of electro-punk anarchy, it was their innovative Epitaph debut Haha (2015) that proved them to be much more than style over substance, sadistically teasing all essences of musical genres into 17 wonderfully chaotic tracks.

Mirror Might Steal Your Charm was self-produced and recorded in a lock-out studio in one short burst. "I think it’s healthy as an artist to switch up your environment once in a while. The production is tight as a whistle, but also more raw” offers Wyatt. "The process made for a more focused and personal sounding record, with a healthy dose of guitar throughout. Things are a little more refined. If we aren’t implementing past experience into new situations then we aren’t learning. Progress is very appealing to us,” adds Fletcher. New single ‘Stallion’ is the first track on the album and is out today.

The boys’ had this to say on it’s video: "The song itself refers to a build up of aggression and discontent with one's self and how carrying that heavy weight on your back leads to more problems. The video portrays a slightly different image for certain reasons, but gives off a similar feeling to the message of the song. It follows the struggle of a young business man who is consumed with the desire to flaunt his currency and act a fool. Haunted by a demon he cannot see, he tries to find ways to deal with what he truly is."

Converge Announce New Album ‘The Dusk In Us’

  • Published in News

Converge announce the upcoming release of The Dusk In Us, the first album in five years from the Boston-based heavy-music innovators. Due out on November 3, The Dusk in Us will be released via Epitaph and Deathwish. As the ninth full-length from Converge (vocalist Jacob Bannon, guitarist Kurt Ballou, bassist Nate Newton, and drummer Ben Koller), The Dusk In Us follows 2012’s acclaimed All We Love We Leave Behind. Featured on Pitchfork’s Best New Music list, All We Love We Leave Behind was called “as skull-cleaving as it is beautiful” by Consequence Of Sound.

Today also marks the premiere of Converge’s new single, ‘Under Duress’. Delivering what Bannon describes as “my emotional reaction to the complex world in which we live,” the track merges his tortured howl with pounding rhythms and abrasive guitar riffs.

Produced by Converge and mixed by Ballou at his renowned Godcity Studios, The Dusk In Us shows the band’s artistic evolution and avant-garde sensibilities while still capturing their classic sound. After forming in Massachusetts in 1990, Converge made their debut with 1994’s Halo in a Haystack. Quickly regarded as pioneers within the aggressive music arena, the band had a major breakthrough with their landmark album Jane Doe—a 2001 release praised as “iconic” by the A.V. Club.
